The Kuwaiti government has taken measures to ensure that women get their full rights, said a Kuwaiti official on the sideline of a UN meeting Wednesday.
In her address to the UN's 59th session of the commission on the status of women, chairperson of the Kuwaiti cabinet's women affairs committee and head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the meeting Sheikha Latifa Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah said that since independence, Kuwait had adopted various measures to empower women to ensure they get their full rights.
The most recent achievement in this domain was the establishment of a family court that will ensure the rights of women, said Sheikha Latifa, adding that Kuwait not only promotes women's right locally but was eager to support any UN effort on this aspect internationally especially when it came to the rights of women in Palestine.
The annual high-level gathering, which began on March 9, will continue till the 20th of this month.
Government officials and activists will take stock of progress and remaining challenges for implementing this landmark agreement for gender equality and women's rights.
