Author Benjamin Uriah Critchlow’s new poetry collection, “Poetry and Social Studies For All” (published by Trafford Publishing), blends historical events with his personal experiences to create moving poetry that evokes the triumph of the human spirit.
Critchlow’s poems capture historical moments, such as terrorist attacks and major sporting events, in an effort to recreate those times through evocative poetry. Intended as an educational tool, the book includes guided questions after each poem for teachers and book club leaders to spark discussion in groups.
In addition, Critchlow also tackles universal subjects such as love, dreams and hope throughout his poetry. He aims to connect with readers on a personal level and inspire personal reflection.
An excerpt from the poem “Introspection” featured in “Poetry and Social Studies For All”:
“In every one of us is the hope to be better
Never do we think that we cannot prosper
The times that we do falter are ever there
Regardless of dreams there is always fear”
Critchlow states, “Even a subject such as history or social studies can become a literary source of joy for the poet and the readers.”
