Starwood Hotels & Resorts has unveiled the latest stage in its Sri Lankan expansion plan, with the signing of a new Sheraton resort in Kosgoda, on the country’s southwest coast.
Scheduled to open in early 2016, Sheraton Kosgoda Turtle Beach Resort will be a 172-room resort located two hours’ drive from Colombo International Airport.
The resort’s name derives from the fact that it will be located on a stretch of coast famous for its turtle hatcheries. In line with this environmental ethos, the resort’s design will include energy saving and organic initiatives.
Set on a 170-metre-long beach, the resort will make the most of its location with an outdoor lobby lounge and swimming pool with pool bar. The lobby will feature a ‘Link@Sheraton’ IT hub, while other facilities include two restaurants, a fitness centre, club lounge and more than 650m² of event space.
“We believe Sri Lanka has the potential to become a preferred tourist destination for the high-end leisure traveller and are very excited to grow the Sheraton brand in this exotic and fast-growing market,” said Dilip Puri, Starwood’s regional vice president for South Asia.
“Sheraton is a global icon, with a strong reputation in key feeder markets for this location, and this beautiful resort will be a significant addition to our growing presence in Sri Lanka.”
Starwood doesn’t currently have a presence in Sri Lanka, but Sheraton Kosgoda Turtle Beach Resort becomes the third hotel in its nationwide pipeline, following the Sheraton Colombo and the Four Points by Sheraton Colombo International Airport.
