Disney's latest family musical is still winning hearts at the box office. Moana held on to the top spot this weekend, earning $18.8 million.
It's the third straight victory for the blockbuster animated adventure, which has made $145 million stateside since opening at Thanksgiving and $238.8 million globally.
Set in ancient Polynesia, the musical stars the voice talents of newcomer Auli'l Cravalho as a chieftain's daughter who sets out to break a curse besetting her island, helped by demigod Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.
"Moana" was followed closely behind by newcomer "Office Christmas Party." The raunchy comedy picked up $17.5 million from 3,210 locations, a solid result given its modest $45 million budget. It boasts a starry ensemble cast that includes Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Kate McKinnon, Courtney B. Vance and T.J. Miller.
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is still weaving its magic with family audiences, taking third place with $10.8 million in its fourth weekend on release.
Science-fiction thriller Arrival, starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, came in fourth with $5.6 million, pushing its US gross to $81.5 million and a shade under $130 million globally.
